It is an honour to call our readers to an event where history and the future meet eye to eye. In the very city of Valencia where Santiago Ramón y Cajal lived his “decisive year” of 1887—the moment when the Golgi technique illuminated his mind and the Ateneo Científico recognised his talent with the Gold Medal—the Ateneo Mercantil de Valencia now opens its digital doors to the cosmos.

We are pleased to announce the keynote lecture by our Distinguished Cajalian, Prof. Dr Jesús Martínez Frías.

Under the title “Geology and Astrobiology of Mars: Habitability and Terrestrial Analogues,” this lecture is not merely an academic lesson; it is a journey. Dr Martínez Frías, a world authority in Planetary Geosciences at the CSIC and member of NASA (Curiosity, Perseverance) and ESA missions, will trace the definitive bridge between our planet and the Red Planet.

If in 1887 Valencia was the stage where Cajal prepared the tools to conquer the brain, in 2026 it will be the platform from which Martínez Frías will teach us to read the rocks of Mars in search of the traces of life. An exceptional opportunity to hear from one who, with science in hand and Cajal in memory, guides us toward humanity’s next frontier.
